Life cycles of resort towns have been researched extensively. As visitor numbers grow, destinations reach a tipping point at which key decisions determine its future. Dr Julia Albrecht from the University of Otago’s Department of Tourism explores possible choices for resorts to avoid ‘being loved to death’.
Dr Albrecht is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Otago, with a background is in geography and landscape ecology, political studies, and tourism. Julia’s research addresses sustainable aspects of tourism, tourism strategy and planning, visitor management and stakeholder relationships in tourism
(This inSight event is also the first in a series of tourism talks titled “Loving it to Death? Queenstown at the Crossroads”. Two more talks – mid October and late November – will continue to explore the options for town and tourism – more details soon.)
