Queenstown’s first Startup Weekend for entrepreneurs and wannabe entrepreneurs occurs simultaneously with 24 other Startups occurring around the world, from Bigota to Brazil, this mid-October weekend. Effectively a crash course in starting a business, participants will learn techniques that can be applied in any settings from more than 13 top business mentors.
On average, half of Startup Weekend’s attendees have technical or design backgrounds, the other half have business backgrounds. Beginning with open mic pitches on Friday, attendees bring their best ideas and inspire others to join their team. Over Saturday and Sunday teams focus on customer development, validating their ideas, practicing LEAN Startup Methodologies and building a minimal viable product. On Sunday evening teams demo their prototypes and receive valuable feedback from the panel of experts.
Startup Weekend is a non-profit community-based event, so the cost is a nominal $99 per person, including food. It starts on Friday night, 17 October, and runs through to the end of Sunday.
