Saturday 28 November, 1 – 3pm, Queenstown Memorial Centre, free.
Traditional and contemporary Indonesian song, dance, music and fashion will feature in this free afternoon showcase of Indonesian culture in the heart of Queenstown.
Celebrating its 70th year of independence, Indonesia’s sprawling islands are our nearest Muslim neighbours, a huge and growing economic force and home to a varied and rich culture.
The Indonesian Embassy is joining with Queenstown’s local Indonesian community to bring everything from dynamic Tari Pendet dance and the harp-like Sasando (played by the Rote people since the seventh century), to an Angklung music ensemble and the percussive Gamelan ensemble. Performers from Queenstown, Dunedin and Indonesia.
And enjoy Indonesian food and craft at the Indonesian Bazaar, also at the Memorial Centre, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
