Outspoken – Festival of Words and Storytelling (on till end March)

Event Details

  • Date: February 21, 2015 7:30 pm – March 31, 2015 9:30 pm
  • Venue: St Peters Church
  • Categories: Outspoken

So the Outspoken Festival is a four-week smorgasbord of comedy, storytelling and spoken word poetry to entertain and challenge audiences.
Big names like Olly Ohlson, Gary McCormick, Rose Matafeo and Brian Turner rub shoulders with totally talented locals in out-of-the-box venues. Want to hear about the history of the bicycle .. from the back of a bicycle…in a bicycle shop? Or immerse yourself in the copyleft, conscious-living world of the David Merritt Poetry Experience.
Billy-T award-wining comedians take on Big Issues…Seriously. Spoken word superstars the South Auckland Poets Collective were that good last year they got a standing ovation in Wanaka so we’re bringing them back, with guys from Waxed Poetic Revival, for outings in Hawea and Queenstown.
Workshops with Owen Marshall, Hinemoana Baker and Joy Cowley will help participants hone their own words. Free events include an open mic session, a youth workshop with SAPC and readings for pre-schoolers.
And lastly, if you’re the competitive type but not so much into lycra, we’re finishing off with The Other Challenge Wanaka – a game of theatresports between teams from Wanaka and Dunedin.

The word is your oyster and the Outspoken Festival is bringing you so many pearls!
