Have you ever wondered how our council makes decisions about local services like water, sewage treatment, libraries, transport, where and how houses can be built? And where you might fit into the process?
This non-political community kōrero is for anyone curious about how local government works here in Aotearoa New Zealand – especially if you’ve come from somewhere with a different system or haven’t had much to do with voting or council before.
Catalyst Trust has collaborated with Happiness House, Queenstown Libraries and Citizens Advice Bureau to explore how councils work, who makes decisions and how residents – including migrants and newcomers – can have a say, with Elections NZ’s chief electoral officer and Cr Esther Whitehead.
Register here so we know numbers for seats, coffee and tea. Queenstown Events Centre upstairs meeting room, July 15, 6 to 7:30 pm.
