Speaker: Dr Liz Craig, Dept of Women’s and Child Health at Otago University
There is now widespread concern about NZ’s child poverty rates which have increased markedly in the last 20 or so years. Liz will explain how poverty is measured, and the consequences it has for children, including hospital admissions for infectious and respiratory diseases, and child abuse.
Liz is an epidemiologist and the founding editor of the NZ Child and Youth Epidemiology Service and the Child Poverty Monitor which uses routinely collected data and examines the impact of Government policies. She was the local Labour Party candidate in the last election.
