Kiwis in Climate

  • Venue: Te Atamira

Catalyst Kōrero, Friday, March 20, with Kiwi Climate leaders

Kiwis are leading global progress on tackling climate change and can collectively create good jobs, restore our connection with the land, and protect the future of both current and future generations.

That’s the message of ‘Kiwis in Climate,’ a book to be launched in Parliament this March in which more than 30 leading New Zealand scientists, politicians, CEOs and climate activists demonstrate what is already being done in Aotearoa – and what must still happen – to mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change.

At our Catalyst Kōrero the following week,  ‘Kiwis in Climate’ co-authors and local climate action leaders will share examples of progress already under way and outline an achievable vision for climate action across communities, business and government to claw the world back from dangerous overheating.

The panel will include John Lang, the UK-based  founder of Net Zero Tracker and the Kiwis in Climate group, Wānaka’s Simon Millar, Pure Advantage executive director and producer of the “Think like a Forest” film project, and veteran climate scientist, Queenstowner Jim Salinger.

John spoke with Catalyst Trust two years ago, giving a visual tour of the science of climate change and what we could all do to bend the emissions curve downwards.  He is with the London-based Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit and runs Consult Climate and ‘the e-nvironmentalist’, a climate communication blog.

He says the 300-strong Kiwis in Climate global network of climate and sustainability professionals aims to cut through politics and disinformation to share science-backed, practical ways for New Zealand to lead on climate action. “And it’s happening here, in Queenstown Lakes.”

Friday, March 20, Te Atamira, 6.30-8 pm . Registration required HERE to ensure your seat. Please donate online or bring cash for your koha, which will be given Whakatipu Reforestation Trust.
