Up close and personal with an elephant in waiting.
Filmmaker: Shar Carlini
Across the world, safety concerns mean elephant managers are having to change from being up close and personal with their elephants to being hands off managers from behind a barrier. However, New Zealand’s Auckland Zoo is running counter to the trend with its progressive programme of creating a ‘herd’ of keepers who are very hands on with Burma the Asian elephant. For three years she’s lived without the company of other elephants, a situation that’s not ideal. But while decisions are being made about her future, she waits. And while she waits, she lives the life of a celebrity – mud spas, facial scrubs, personal training, photo opportunities and adoring fans.
‘It’s All About Burma’ screens alongside another film ‘Becoming Giants’ as part of inSight’s Sci Shorts (science short film festival).
This event is FREE. Donations are welcome.
